CHIARA DYNYS1 April - 14 May 2005 After the recent solo shows at the Kunstmuseum of Bonn and the UBS Executive Centre of Wolfsberg, Chiara Dynys has finally returned for a show in Italy. Existential questions have long formed the basis for this artist's research. In her works she tries to focus attention on one of the characteristics of human existence, the continuous wavering between two opposite poles. Her works, also thanks to the materials used, require active participation on the part of the viewer, and this is precisely one of their strenghts. The recent works by Chiara Dynys concentrate on certain recurring characteristics, within a wide stylistic range: the materials used have reflecting surfaces, and light becomes the protagonist: both the intrinsic light of the materials, including mirrors, gold leaf, glass, marble, and the light projected by videos or lightboxes. The variety of installation devices employed becomes effective to activate different levels of perception, from the most conscious and rational to the subconscious and emotional. Thus the artist offers the viewer an opportunity for self-reflection. The works seen at the gallery include an installation of lenticular boxes. Depending upon the vantage point of the observer, they present the word "hope" translated into different languages, and the image of a blue sky with white clouds that are dispersing, as after a storm. The second installation is composed of four marble "chessboards" that focus on the dualism of hate-love. On the white marble adjectives stand out, related to these two opposite states of mind: the observer becomes a hypothetical player in a game of chess, concentrating on finding the right move to advance the adjective that captures the attention, whether it is positive or negative. The last installation is a reminder of childhood games: two large colored “magic lanterns” placed at the center of the room project the word "hope", expressed in different languages, on the walls. A game of emotions and reflections that demands participation. Chiara Dynys lives and works in Milan. Her works have been shown in many public and private artspaces in Italy and abroad. Selected exhibitions: Städtische Galerie of Göppingen in 1993, Contemporary Art Center of Geneva in 1996, Centre Culturel de l'Université de Montreal in 1997, Centre Culturel Francais in Milan in 1999, Santa Maria delle Croci in Ravenna and Museo Cantonale of Lugano in 2001, Museum of Bochum 2003, Kunstmuseum of Bonn 2004, UBS Executive Centre of Wolfsberg 2005. She has also participated in many important international events, including L'Identité ailleurs que dans l'identification at Musée La Terrasse in St. Etienne 1992, the Triennale der Kleinplastik in Stuttgart 1998, Futurama, Arte in Italia 2000 at Centro Luigi Pecci per l'Arte Contemporanea in Prato, Novecento, Arte e Storia in Italia at the Scuderie del Quirinale and the Trajan Markets in Rome 2000, and the XIV Quadriennale of Rome in 2005.

Chiara Dynys vive e lavora a Milano. Ha esposto in numerosi spazi pubblici e gallerie private in Italia e all'estero.
